The Attorney General's Office will investigate the judge who released "La Güera," an alleged CJNG operative in Michoacán.

MEXICO CITY (apro).- A federal judge ordered the release of Leslie “N,” alias “La Güera,” identified as an operator of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG) in Michoacán, and the Attorney General's Office (FGR) announced that it will investigate the judge.

During a 10-hour hearing, Judge Elizabeth Galicia García of the Federal Criminal Justice Center in Morelia, Michoacán, ordered her release from prosecution after declaring the "nullity of all evidence seized."

“La Güera’s” defense team presented videos from Huandacareo public security cameras about the operation in which she was arrested on May 1.

In a statement, the Attorney General's Office explained that the search in which "La Güera" was arrested was authorized by the National Specialized Center for this matter and that various quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and other objects were found at the address she allegedly left.

"The arrest was made as the person was fleeing to a home next door at the time of the search," the Prosecutor's Office stated.

"The judge granted this release based on arguments that are truly insubstantial, such as the fact that the participants differed by minutes or seconds regarding the time they entered the home being searched, or that there was a discrepancy regarding the number of times the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF) knocked on the door of the property, when this is not even required for a judicial authorization for such a search. These and other arguments by the judge are mere subterfuges that ultimately constitute a biased stance in favor of the person who was detained."

He added that the judge's arguments were futile and that they cannot disprove the fact that "La Güera's" arrest was legal, so he will challenge the decision.

"The Attorney General's Office will proceed to legally challenge this decision and will also open an investigation against the Judge, as her ruling violates the law and she used irrelevant pretexts when issuing a substantive ruling contrary to the proceedings. This ruling harms national security in this highly relevant matter. Therefore, she is considered to have committed a crime against the administration of justice," he emphasized.
